欢迎参加AGU2013年会的“南海的地球动力学、沉积、海洋过程”专题

在汪品先院士的倡议下,在林间老师、Carl Stattegger、刘志飞老师和孙珍老师的积极准备下,我们向AGU2013年秋季年会提交的专题建议,已被批准。正式的session号为OS007,主题是“南海的地球动力学、沉积、海洋过程”。AGU将于6月17日-8月6日接受摘要提交,欢迎各位老师和同学本人及鼓励您认识的国内外学者踊跃提交摘要,参加本专题的口头报告和/或海报展示,以及之后的2014年IODP349航次钻探计划讨论。下面附上AGU组委会的简要通知、本专题的简短介绍(由于会议要求“Session申请”题目+内容不能超过800字符,因此十分简短)和较完整的介绍(林间老师撰写、Carl Stattegger、刘志飞老师等几位老师修改的建议稿)。

All accepted sessions will be available to search on the meeting website the week of 17 June. As a convener, please promote your session to your colleagues to submit abstracts. The abstract submission site will open the week of 17 June. The deadline for all submissions is 6 August 23:59 EDT/03:59+1 GMT. There can be no exceptions.

DESCRIPTION: The evolution of the South China Sea (SCS) is linked to the continental-oceanic interaction of the Eurasian, Pacific and Indo-Australian plates. Despite its small size and short history, the SCS has undergone a complete Wilson cycle from continental breakup to seafloor spreading to subduction. This session aims to provide a platform for international community to present investigations and new insights of multi-disciplinary processes of the SCS, including: 1) tectonics and volcanism; 2) sedimentology; 3) physical oceanography and paleoceanography; 4) biogeochemistry and microbiology. It will also provide a forum for discussion of multi-disciplinary sciences during the upcoming IODP drilling in the SCS in Jan-March 2014.

本专题介绍:
The South China Sea (SCS) is the largest low-latitude marginal sea in the world. Its formation and evolution are linked to the complex continental-oceanic tectonic interaction of the Eurasian, Pacific, and Indo-Australian plates. Despite its relatively small size and short history, the SCS has undergone nearly a complete Wilson cycle from continental break-up to seafloor spreading to subduction. The climatic system of the SCS and surrounding regions is affected by the proximity to the Tibetan plateau and Pacific warm pool. Temporal and spatial changes in the fluvial sediment discharge to the SCS directly reflect marine environmental change in response to the evolution of the regional tectonic and climatic systems. Furthermore, the SCS is one of the best places for paleo-climatic and paleo-oceanographic studies because of its good carbonate record and high sedimentation rates. This special session aims to provide a platform for the international research community to present recent investigations and new insights of multi-disciplinary processes of the SCS and surrounding regions. We welcome contributions that address the following processes of the SCS and surrounding regions: (1) tectonics and volcanism; (2) sedimentology; (3) oceanography and paleo-oceanography; (4) biogeochemistry, biodiversity, microbiology; and (5) the correlation and interplay among the above processes. This special session will also provide a timely forum for discussion of multi-disciplinary sciences to be carried out during the upcoming deep-sea drilling in the SCS in January-March 2014 by the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP).
